Akureyri
is the capital of North Iceland - The Ring Road (Route
1 ) runs through Akureyri and connects it with other parts
of the country. The town has an airport that is mostly
used for domestic flights but occasionally international
flights use the airport as well.
On
the North side there's also lake Mývatn, which
is a shallow lake situated in an area of active volcanism.
The lake is surrounding wetlands have an exceptionally
rich fauna of waterbirds - especially ducks
